5 Tips To Boost Your Metabolism & Get Firing

What I wanted to talk about briefly today is your Metabolism. Your metabolism plays such a huge and important part in you reaching your health and fitness goals. The way and speed in which your body uses the food you eat is vital. Here are 5 tips to make sure it’s working fast enough and taking all those nutrients out of the food you eat and converting them to energy.

WHAT IS METABOLISM?

You’re probably familiar with the concept of Metabolism. In simple terms, it’s the process that occurs in your body when you eat, digest, convert and expel energy.

Chemicals in our digestive system break down food into fuel, which is either used immediately or stored in the body’s tissues.

5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR METABOLISM

1. Weight training (I’ve got you covered on this one).

When you increase the muscle in your body you increase the speed at which you metabolise food. If 2 people weigh exactly the same amount but 1 person has a higher percentage muscle they can eat more food and stay the same weight as the other person because there body will use up more energy doing the same day to day tasks, awesome!Eat regularly.

2. EAT REGULARLY

Your body needs to trust you and know that it’s going to get fed at regular intervals in order to use the food you eat as fuel rather than storing it. The more regularly you eat the more your body will be like – Ok I’ll get some food again in a couple of hours so I can go right ahead and burn up this food.

3. SLEEP

I notice a huge difference when I haven’t slept enough with my metabolism. It just goes haywire. I’ll be starving all day and without a doubt overeat.

4. Move everyday

The more you move the more your metabolism will have to work to provide the energy that you are expending. High intensity exercise is great but not always necessary or perhaps even possible so just go for a walk or a bike ride. Seriously a 30 min walk a day is soo good for you. Turn off those headphones, let the mind wander and get moving.

5. Drink water

Drinking lots of water can increase your metabolic rate by as much as 40%. I like to keep a glass of water next to my bed (no too massive) and drink it before I get up in the morning. I also never leave the house without my trusty water bottle. I also drink loads of herbal teas, love them.
